Found in Japan, Korea, China, eastern Siberia, Aluetians and Alaska in grasslands as a small to medium sized, cold growing terrestrial with palmate tuberoids giving rise to 2 to 5, green, unspottteed, elliptic-lanceolate, basally clasping the hollow stem leaves that blooms in the later spring to early summer on a terminal, erect, to 18" [40 cm] long, densely to 30 flowered inflorescence with floiaceous, lanceolate, purple suffused, upper ones shorter, shorter than the ovary floral bracts and carrying purple, pink, salmon or white flowers
