Common Name Dekock's Dendrobium [Dutch Medical Officer in New Guinea 1900's]

Flower Size .6 to 1.4" [1.4 to 3.5 cm]

Found in New Guinea in high mountains on mossy trees or in alpine shrubbery and along forest margins at elevations of 2300 to 3800 meters as a mini-miniature sized, cold growing epiphyte with clustered, erect to semi-pendulous, many shaped, often distinctly constricted towards the middle to fusiform to ovoid to globose, clavate or cylindrical pseudobulbs carrying 3 to 4, rarely 1, erect t ospreading, leathery, rigid, dimpled to rugose, long-linear to short-lanceolate, subacute, subsessile, green, dark purple to red leaves that blooms in the fall and winter on 1 to sometimes 2, short, simultaneously 1 to 2, rarely 3 flowered inflorescence arising from the terminal node of the pseudodbulb and carrying long-lasting flowers.

D brevicaule is very similar but has a purplish black anther cap.
