Common Name The Almost-Closed Flower Dendrobium

Flower Size 3/4 to 1 3/4"

Found in northern Papua and New Guinea and the Molucca Islands occuring at many elevations but mostly above 2000 meters, both epiphyticly and lithophyticly. This species is found in many habitats and in many sizes. It can basically bloom at any time of the year but mid-winter is the most possible on a cluster that surrounds the previous years cane arising from below the leaves.

This species needs constant cold temperatures with a lessening of water and a cessation of fertilizer in the winter months.

This species is similar to D chrysopterum but D subclausum differs in the branched stems, the narrower leaf, narrower flower and a more closed mentum which is the spur-like basal part of the flower.
