Found in the Philippines at elevations of 950 to 2000 meters as a mini-miniature to miniature sized, warm to cool growing epiphyte with semi-spindle shaped, slender pseudobulbs carrying a single, apical, erect, shortly lanceolate, 3 to 5 veined leaf that blooms in the fall and winter on an erect, shorter than the leaf, 1.6 to 4.4" [4 to 11 cm] long, loosely many flowered inflorescence.

Similar to D affine in having the midlobe of the lip longer than the lateral lobes, and D simulacron but D pumilum differs in the mid lobe of the lip shorter to only slightly longer and no to an obscure callus than the laterals lobes.
