Found in Brunei and Sarawak Borneo in mixed ridge forests and lower montane forests on tree trunks at elevations of sea level to 900 meters as a mini-miniature sized, hot to warm growing epiphyte with an elongate, simple to occasional short branched rhizome giving rise to ovoid somewhat compressed, .2 to 2" [.5 to 5 cm] between each, smooth pseudobulb carrying a single, apical, erect, stiff but thin textured, oblanceolate to narrowly elliptic, acute to acuminate, constricted below the apex, 7 nerved, 3 prominent, shortly black or brown pubescent on abaxial side, slightly less so on adaxial side, canaliculate and pubescent below into the petiolate base leaf that blooms fall winter and spring on an erect becoming curving to pendulous, shortly black or brown pubescent, peduncle 2 to 4.6" [5 to 14 cm] long, rachis quadrangular, .8 to 2" [2 to 5 cm] long, laxly 3 to 10 flowered inflorescence with ovate, apiculate floral bracts and carrying green to brownish ocher to transluscent yellow , the lip green to orange brown and the column is pale green to white.

D pubescens differs from all other Bornean Dendrochilum by its dense brown to black pubescens on the leaves, sheaths, inflorescence and sepals.
