Found in Papua New Guinea on moss covered trees in mist forests at elevations of 800 to 3000 meters as a small sized, warm to cold growing epiphyte or terrestrial with slender, from a terete base becoming wider towards the apex, grooved pseduobulbs carrying 2, bluish green on upper surface, elliptic, twisted at the base so to be in one plane leaves that blooms in the fall on a slender, 3" [7.5 cm] long, wiry, 2 to 4 flowered inflorescence.

This species is closely related to D armenicaum but it differs in the lip shape as well as the much smaller 3 ridged callus of the lip.
