Found in Kerala India in montane grasslands at elevations around 1250 meters as a small sized, cool growing epiphyte with clavoid, cane-like, cylindrical below widening towards the apex, sometimes branching stems carrying alternate, on terminal branches and branchlets only, usually short lived, deciduous, narrowly linear-lanceolate, acute leaves that blooms in the fall arising on leafless stems, terminal, short, 4 to 6 flowered inflorescence.
Similar to D herbaceum but this one differs in the basally narrow becoming swollen in to a pseudobulb above, 6 to 12" [15 to 30 cm] long stems carrying shorter leaves, the inflorescence arising on the nodes of the pseudobulb and carrying white flowers.
