Found in Malaysia, Borneo and New Guinea in hill forests, mossy ridge forests and in mist forests on mossy tree trunks in partial shade at elevations of 400 to 1000 meters as a medium to large sized, hot to warm growing epiphyte with elongated, many noded, quadrangular, dirty yellow, longitudinally grooved stems carrying many, distichous, linear-lanceolate, dark green, very unequally bilobed leaves that blooms in the spring on a .8" [2 cm] long, 1 to 2 rarely 4 flowered, racemose inflorescence arising laterally from the base of the internodes.
This species is similar to D nabawanense but this one differs in the hooked lip side lobes and the disc with a central fleshy raised, 3 ribbed elongate ridge with 4 radiating ridges flanking it while D nabawenense has a straight mentum, the gently rounding lip side lobes and the disc with a central fleshy raised, rather flat, 3 ribbed elongate ridge
