Found in Laos and southern Vietnam in Kontum Province at elevations around 538 meters as a warm growing epiphyte that blooms in the winter

Often cited as a synonym of D virgineum, only Kew separates. Also Kew states that D schildhaueri is synomonous with D kontumense but I feel that there are sufficient differences to keep them separate.
