Found in Assam, the eastern Himalayas, Thailand, Malaysia, Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam at elevations of 300 to 900 meters as a miniature sized, hot to warm growing epiphyte with thin basally, expanding and flattened above stems carrying 10 to 12, distichous, equitant, fleshy, triangular, deciduous leaves that bloom in the fall on a short, lateral, 1 to 2 flowered inflorescence arising on leafless [common] or leafy [less so] stems.
This species, D terminale and D nathanielsii are similar and can be confused.
