Common Name or Meaning The Miniscule Dendrobium

Found in northeastern Laos and northern Vietnam in primary and secondary broad-leaved evergreen dry forests on shale sandstone slopes and along ridge edge at elevations of 1750 to 1850 meters as a mini-miniature sized, cool growing epiphyte with densely clustering, pseudobulbous, erect, with 2 to 5 nodes, globose to ovoid and narrowly ovoid, glossy green, enveloped by white to light greenish hyaline leaf sheaths, old finely rough, dark green to brown, naked or with light brownish scarious sheathed stems carrying 1 to 4, distichous, sessile, sheathed, sheath tubular, as long as internode, completely disintegrating or remaining in form of insignificant scarious, papyraceous remnants on second-year stems blade conduplicate, with prominent median vein, suberect or recurved, rather thin, herbaceous, oblong lanceolate, obtuse, sometime shortly unequally bilobulate at apex leaves that blooms in the later summer on 1 to 2, synanthous, arising from the apical part of young leafy stem, suberect, peduncle .16 to .48" [4 to 12 mm] long, light green, naked or with 1 to 2 small sterile bracts, rachis, lax, .4 to 2.4" [1 to 6 cm] tall; light green, straight, many flowered inflorescence with light greenish, narrowly triangular, straight, conduplicate, tapering and acute at apex, bracts and floral bracts.

Morphologically the new species is closest to Dendrobium porphyrochilum and D. mucronatum Seidenf. from which D minusculum differs in its smaller, uniform pale green flowers and the very fleshy, strongly recurved lip with two fat keels separated by a deep groove. " Averyanov etal 2016
