Common Name The Purple Column Dendrobium

Flower Size .2" [5mm]

Found in Thailand, Malaysia, Sumatra and Borneo in hill forests at elevations around 600 meters as a small to medium sized, warm growing epiphyte with clustered, usually simple, occasionally branching, pendent, laterally compressed below, distal potion leafless stems carrying imbricate, triangular, apex incurved, sharply acute, rigid, flattened leaves that blooms on a lateral, very short, mostly arising from the chaffy bracts along the leafless portion of the stem, successively single, few flowered inflorescence.

Often confused with D rosellum but it is actually closer to D reflexitepalum. Although closely allied to D aloifolium and D reflexitepalum this specis has slightly alrger flowers in which the dorsal sepal and petals are erect or curve forward instead of being reflexed as well as the center of the lip is distinctly rugose-papillose.

Synonyms Aporum rhodostele (Ridl.) Rauschert 1983
