Found in China, Myanmar, Thailand, Malaysia, Laos, Vietnam, Java, Borneo and Sumatra in riparian forests at elevations of 500 to 1800 meters as a small to large sized, warm to cool growing epiphyte on trees and lithophyte on rocks in forests and open places with slender, often pendulous, shiny, woody stems carrying, many, slender, distichous grass-like leaves confined to the upper 2/3's of the cane and blooms in the spring and summer on a .8" [2 cm] long, 1 to 4 flowered inflorescence emerging from nodes opposite the leaves with variable flowers even within the same inflorescence.
