Found in the Solomon Islands and the Santa Cruz Islands at elevations around sea level as a giant sized, hot growing epiphyte with a short rhizome giving rise to simple, very long, terete, pendent stems carrying many, glabrous, narrowly lanceolate, acute leaves that blooms in the late winter and early spring on a short, 2 flowered inflorescence carrying strongly scented flowers.

Schlechter states that the flowers are yellow

Schlechter also states that this species, D longicaule, D crassiflorum and D longissimum are all closely related.
