Found in Kalimantan Borneo in lowlands at elevations around 300 meters as a miniature to medium sized, hot growing epiphyte with approximate, branching, sinuous, leafy throughout stems carrying spreading, mostly the same length throughout, laterally compressed, linear, acute, slightly falcate, fleshy, olive green stained red leaves that blooms on a terminal, short, single flowered inflorescence.

J J Smith placed this species next to D kentrophyllum but D sambasanum has larger flowers with a distally three lobed lip and a bilobate midlobe.
