Common Name The Rough Leafed Dendrobium
Flower Size .7" [1.8 cm]
Found in Thailand, Malaysia, Borneo and Sumatra in lower montane forests at elevations of 1300 to 1600 meters as a small to medium sized, cool growing epiphyte with clustered, basally shortly slender, swelling to almost round medially and then thinning out again towards the very elongate apex cane carrying 4 to 8, widely spaced, slender, terete, channeled leaves that blooms on a very short, single flowered inflorescence arising from the middle to the apex of the cane and have flowers that are non-resupinate, short-lived and do not open well.
CAUTION There are a few descrepancies in this determination so I await more information. The first, second and third photos seem to be the most correct and correlates to photos within other references. The third and fourth photo has an entire lip with no eroseness and is not bilobed which the Drawing by Seidenfaden does show. Also, although Seidenfaden shows a callosity on the midlobe of the lip it is not as prominent and does not seem to have the height of structure and the margin is dentate instead of entire.
D grootingsii and D setifolium are very close and may turn out to be conspecific, I await new research to confirm or deny this. If they are conspecific then D setifolium takes precedence.
Synonyms Aporum setifolium (Ridl.) Rauschert 1983; Ceraia setifolia (Ridl.) M.A.Clem. 2003
