Common Name Kegel's Dichaea [German Orchid Gardener and head of Halle Botanical garden 1800's]
Found in French Guiana, Surinam, Guyana, Venezuela, Brazil, Ecuador and Peru in rain forests at elevations of 100 to 1300 meters as a small to just medium sized, hot to cool growing epiphyte with a pendant stem carrying distichous, imbricate, delicate, articulate to the leaf shesths below, elliptic to ovate-elliptic, finely pilose for the margins of the leaves that blooms in the late summer and fall with an axillary, short, single flowered inflorescence that holds the flowers within the leaves.
Distinguished from others in the genus by the broad, short, triangular infrastigmatic ligule at the bottom of the viscidium.
