Flower Size .6" [1.5 cm] long
Found in Texas, Arizona, Mexico, and Honduras in grassland openings within junipers and scrubby oaks at elevations of 1500 to 2500 meters as a small to just large sized, cool to cold growing terrestrial with an erect, stout, glabrous below, copiously pilose above stem carrying 2 to 5, present at flowering, near the base to below the middle, sometimes withered to dry, ascending stiffly when fresh, often conduplicate, linear-lanceolate to elliptic, acute, basally clasping leaves that blooms in the late summer through early winter on a terminal, erect, 8 to 10" [20 to 35 cm] long, sometimes semi secund, rachis 6 to 10" [15 to 25 cm] long, often densely 30 to many flowered inflorescence with ovate, acuminate, scarious, prominently nerved, shorter than the ovary floral bracts and carrying flowers emitting an intense lemony scent with a hint of urine
