Found in the Chinese Himalayas, Assam, eastern Himalayas, Myanamar, Thailand and Vietnam in grassy areas of forests in deep shade at elevations of 600 to 2600 meters as a miniature to small sized, cool to cold growing terrestrial with ellipsoid tubers giving rise to 2, basal, 1 larger than the other, ensiform to linear-lanceolate, glabrous, contracted below into the amplexicaul sheath, acuminate leaves that blooms in the later summer on an erect, glabrous, 2.4 to 7.2" [6 to 18 cm] long, usually single flowered inflorescence with a broadly ovate, as long as the ovary floral bract
