Found in Zimbabwe and Natal, Orange Free State and Transvaal Provines of South Africa in open grasslands at elevations of 1500 to 2250 meters as a rather stout, small to medium sized, cold growing terrestrial with 2 to 4, alternate along the stem, ovate to ovate-lanceolate, sessile, acute, glabrous leaves and blooms in the summer on an erect, terminal, to 16" [40 cm] long, to 30 flowered inflorescence and carrying color variable flowers
