Found in Antioquia Colombia on the western cordillera in cloud forests at elevations around 1950 meters as a small sized, cool to cold growing epiphyte with erect ramicauls enveloped basally by 2 to 3 sheaths and carrying a single, apical, erect, thinly coriaceous, carinate, narrowly elliptical to linear, acute, gradually narrowing below into the conduplicate, indistinct, petiolate base leaf that blooms in the spring and fall on a 2.4 to 4" [6 to 10 cm] long, purple, multibracted, congested, successively single, few flowered inflorescence arising from low on the ramicaul and carrying a tubular floral bract and a downward facing flower.
