Common Name The Capitate Elleanthus [refers to the inflorescence being a head of flowers]

Flower Size

Found in Cuba, Dominican Republic, Haiti, Jamaica, Leewards, Trinidad and Tobago and the Windward Islands at elevatiojns of 750 to 1600 meters as a large sized, warm to cool growing epiphyte, lithophyte or terrestrial with an erect to pendent, simple, clustered, stout stems carrying numerous, cauline, erect-spreading, deciduous, sheaths persistent, plicate, narrowly elliptic to lancelate, acuminate leaves that blooms in the spring on a terminal, peduncle stout, 1.2 to 3.6" [3 to 9 cm] long, many flowered inflorescence with outer bracts of the floral head imbricate, broadly ovate to ovate-lanceolate and acuminate and the flowers are embedded in mucilage and bracts.

Often confused with E cynarocephalus but it differs mostly in being from central and south America and this one only occurs in the West Indies
