Common Name or Meaning The Green Encyclia

Flower Size

Text by David Hunt "The photo is from the exact plant described by Carl Withner in his 1997 ODG article on the species. He gives a learned discertation on why virens is not Encyclia diurna. The plant in my photo was originally collected in Chiapas, Mexico and is sometimes confused with Encyclia ambigua."

Many references including Kew give this species as a synonym of E diurna but for the reasons stated above and that stated by Withner in the 1997 OGD I keep this species separate status.

Ruben Sauleda also feels that this species is distinct [pers comm]
