Found in Spain, France, Germany, Switzerland, Austria and Hungary in old growth poplar and oak woodlands up to 300 meters as a small to medium sized, cold growing terrestrial with green, hairy towards the tips, carrying well developed, spreading to near erect, in 2 opposite rows, lanceolate, often mucronate, undulate margined, cauline leaves and 1 to 9 upper, bract-like leaves that blooms in the later spring on a terminal, erect, near secund, lax, to 30 flowered inflorescence
