Found in Bhutan, China, Japan and Taiwan in moist broad leaved forests at elevations of 2200 to 3000 meters as a miniature to small sized, cold growing mycoheterotrophic terrestrial with nearly ellipsoid, dense annular noded tubers giving rise to an erect, yellow brown, purple dotted when fresh, fleshy leafless stem enveloped by 1 to 3, membraneous, yellow brown, clasping sheaths that blooms in the late summer and early fall on an erct, 2 to 6 flowered inflorescence with membraneous, yellow brown, erect, ovate floral bracts
