Found from Tanzania, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Mauritius, Reunion, Madagasacar, India, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, Taiwan, Malaysia, Lesser Sunda Islands, Sumatra, Java, Borneo, New Guinea, Solomon Islands, Moluccas, Sulawesi, the Philippines, Queensland Australia, Nuie, New Caledonia, Fiji, Tonga, Vanuatu, Caroline Islands and the Marianas in semi-deciduous and deciduous, dry lowland forests and savana-like woodlands and in riverine and submontane forests at elevations of sea level to 1400 meters as a small sized, hot to cool growing terrestrial with cylindrical pseudobulbs carrying 2 to 4, long-petiolate, lanceolate, acute, pleated leaves that blooms in the spring and summer on an erect, slender, to 2 1/2' [75 cm] long, lax many flowered, racemose inflorescence arising on a mature pseudobulb with long-lasting, not wide opening flowers.
