Found in northeast and southwestern Yunnan province of China in Bamboo forests at elevations of 1600 to 2050 meters as a medium sized, cold growing terrestrial with thick, grayish white, ellipsoid fusiform, stout, densely noded, fleshy rhizomes giving rise in the late winter and spring to an erect, provided with 3 to 7 sheaths stem, peduncle with a few scattered basal scales, 10 to 14" [25 to 35 cm] long, rachis 6 to 10" [15 to 25 cm] long, 20 to 30 flowered inflorescence with elliptic, much shorter than the ovary floral bracts and carrying suberecct, resupinate flowers.
