Common Name or Meaning The Curled Gastrodia

Found in western Java in damp primary forests in deep humus and shade at elevations of 820 to 1500 meters as a small to medium sized, warm to cool growing mycoheterotrophic terrestrial with a rhizome giving rise in the winter to a very dark brown, to 14" [35 cm] long, rachis 6" [15 cm] long, successively 11 flowered inflorescence with 2 to 3 flowers open open at any one time.
