Common Name The Pretty Yellow Gastrodia - In China Xia Tian Ma

Found in central Taiwan in open humid forests at elevations around 1100 to 1300 meters as a medium to large sized, cool growing, mycoheterotrophic terrestrial with a stout rhizome giving rise in the summer to an erect, yellowish brown below, dull purplish brown above, to 28" [70 cm] long, rachis 2.8 to 10" [7 to 25 cm] long, laxly 7 to 20 flowered inflorescence with caducous, ovate-lanceolate, acute apically floral bracts
