Common Name The Shimazu Island Gastrodia - In China Cha Ji Tian Ma

Flower Size .6 to 75" [1.6 to 1.8 cm]

Found in the Ryukyu Islands and north Taiwan in evergreen forests at elevations of 300 to 400 meters as a mini-miniature sized, hot to warm growing, mycoheterotrophic terrestrial without leaves and cylindric, sparsely pubescent rhizome with deltoid sheaths and blooms in the spring on a dark brown, to 1.6" [4 cm] long, densely 1 to 4 flowered inflorescence with several short tubular sheaths towards the base and broadly oblong-ovate, shorter than the ovary, acuminate floral bracts.
