Found in Costa Rica, Colombia, Venezuela, Guyana, Ecuador and Peru in wet montane forests and on tepui summits at elevations around 1500 to 3400 meters as a medium sized, cool to cold growing terrestrial with a rosette of ascending, narrowly elliptic, acute, becoming conduplicate below leaves that blooms in the summer through early winter on an erect, stout, pubescent, densely many flowered inflorescence enveloped almost completely by imbricating, acuminate, triangular bracts
