Common Name Salamanca's Gomphichis [Colombian Mrs Villegas collector and orchid enthusiast current]

Found in Cundinamarca, Norte de Santander and Risaralda departments of Colombia in subparamo and cloud forests at elevations around 2900 to 3800 meters as a large sized, cold growing terrestrial with 3 basal and 1 cauline, oblong-lanceolate to linear-lanceolate, acute, tapering towards the elongate petiolate base leaves that blooms in the fall and winter on a terminal, erect, with several glabrous below, glandular above bracts, to 28" [70 cm] long, rachis to 2.4" [6 cm] long, cylindrical, densely many flowered inflorescence with ovate-lanceolate, acute, pubescent floral bracts and carrying flowers that are externally pubescent especially near the base.
