Common Name Tracey's Gomphichis [Mrs Tracy, original collector of species 1900's]

Found in Venezuela, Colombia and Ecuador in paramo around 3500 meters as a medium sized, cold growing terrestrial with basal, rosulate, oblong-obovate, acute to abruptly acuminate leaves that blooms in the fall on a terminal, erect, enveloped almost completely by chlorophyll-bearing sheaths grading smaller above, to 20" [50 cm] long, cylindric, rachis to 4" [10 cm] long, densely many flowered inflorescence with ovate to ovate-lanceolate, concave, acute, sparsely pubescent floral bracts.
