Common Name The Black-Purple Gongora

Flower Size 2.5" [6.25 cm]

Found in Colombia, Venezuela, Trinidad, Guianas, Ecuador, Peru and northern Brazil at elevations around 50 to 2000 meters in mangrove estuaries in open places close to the ground and wet forests as a small to medium sized, hot to cool growing epiphtye with ovoid, rugose pseudobulbs carrying 1, apical, plicate, elliptic, acute, gradually narrowing below into the conduplicate, petiolate base leaves that blooms in the summer on a 2 1/4' [37.5 cm] long, sharply pendulous, reddish, loosely many flowered racemose inflorescence with fragrant [cloves], color variable flowers.
