Found in western Venezuela as a medium sized, hot growing epiphyte with aggregate, ovoid, laterally compressed pseudobulbs carrying membraneous, coriaceous, oblong-lanceolate, acute to acuminate, plicate leaves that blooms in the spring and summer on a pendent, thin, longer than the leaves, 28" to 36" [70 to 90 cm] long, well spaced, many flowered inflorescence carrying fragrant flowers

Often cited as a synonym of G quinquevulnervis but has been separated again in more recent years
