Common Name The Large Leaved Goodyera

Found in north and central Madeira Island Portugal on cliffs and in ravines in evergreen forests or in the trade wind, cloud forest zone at elevations around 1000 to 1400 meters as a small to medium sized, cool growing terrestrial with an erect, sturdy, shiny green hairless stem carrying 6 to 9 basal, spreading-erect, elliptic-oblong, acuminate, dark green, shiny, more or less marked with white reticulate venation leaves that grade smaller above into the bracts that blooms in the early fall on a terminal, erect, to 8" [to 20 cm] long, dense to near lax, near cylindrical, to 60 flowered inflorescence with longer than the ovary floral bracts
