Found from Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Costa Rica, Panama, Colombia, Venezuela, Brazil, Ecuador, Bolivia, Paraguay, Uruguay and Argentina near or in water and marshes at elevations of 550 to 1000 meters as a large sized, warm growing terrestrial orchid with a leafy stem carrying linear to narrowly lanceolate, acuminate, conduplicate below, carinate leaves that blooms in the spring through fall on a terminal, laxly few to several flowered, to 20" [50 cm] long, racemose inflorescence.
