Found in Zaire and Zambia in woodlands at elevations of 1200 to 1500 meters as a large sized, cool growing terrestrial with an erect, robust stem carrying about 5, erect patent to suberect, broadly lanceolate, acute, decreasing in size upwards, thinly coriaceous to subfleshy leaves that blooms in the late winter and early spring on an erect, terminal, 6 to 10" [15 to 25 cm] long, rachis terete, densely 20 to 25 flowered inflorescence with leafy, narrowly lanceoalte, acuminate, longer than the flower floral bracts
