Found in Sierra Leone and Guinea in grasslands at elevations of 800 to 1200 meters as a large sized, warm to cool growing terrestrial with an ellipsoid tuber giving rise to an erect, robust, enveloped by bracts to the middle stem and carrying about 6, from the middle up, linear to linear-lanceolate, decreasing in size upwards, acuminate, glabrous, prominently 3 veined leaves that blooms in the summer on an erect, robust, to 10" [to 25 cm] long, densely to 12 flowered inflorescence with foliaceous, lanceolate, acuminate, as long as the flower floral bracts.

The narrow folded leaves resemble H mannii but H jaegeri has a much longer spur which is reminiscent of H splendens but differs from both species by the completely sessile receptive part of the stigmas and by the method of pectination of the lateral lobes of the lip. From all species in the section Multipartitae it is distinguished by the main portion of the lateral lobe is cuneately or almost flabellately widened upwards and the processes arise from the widened part in an almost palmate manner. "In the first place it is clear that the spur is often much longer than in the Type Specimnen. Three flowers from different plants which I have measured have spurs ranging from 2 to 3" [5 to 7.5 cm] as compared with 1.5" [3.75 cm] in the Type." Summerhayes 1949
