Common Name Kraenzlin's Habenaria [German Botanist 1847 - 1943]

Found in southwestern Kenya at elevations around 2550 meters as a medium sized, cold growing terrestrial with an erect stem carrying linear, acute, spread, the upper ones sheath-like, sparsely hairy on both surfaces of the leaves that blooms in the spring and fall on an erect, 2.4" [6 cm] long, laxly 12 flowered inflorescence with oblong-lanceolate, acuminate, hairy externally, longer than the flowers floral bracts.

"Unique in the genus for its peculiar lip morphology, especially for the obovate lower part of the middle lobe. Somewhat similar to H welwitschii , from which it may be distinguished by the form of the petals: the anterior petal lobe is linear and the posterior lobe is obliquely ovate, acute. Another species similar to H. kraenzlinii appears to be H cribbiana , but the form of the petals is quite different" Kras Szlach 2008
