Found in Zaire, Kenya, Tanzania, Angola, Malawi, Zambia and Zimbabwe in open grasslands or in woodlands at elevations of 1000 to 1500 meters as a medium sized, warm growing terrestrial with ovoid, villious tubers giving rise to an erect stem with 2 basal, adpressed to the ground, ovate to reniform, apiculate, fleshy leaves and 5 to 10 bract-like leaves that blooms in the summer on an erect, 2.8 to 7.6" [7 to 19 cm] long, laxly to densely 8 to many flowered inflroescence carrying fragrant flowers
