Found in southern Zaire in damp places at elvations of 1000 to 1200 meters as a large sized, cool growing terrestrial with a single, ovoid-ellipisoid tuber giving rise to an erect, stout, glabrous stem carrying 2, broadly reniform, shortly apiculate, basal, adpressed to the ground, glabrous leaves with 9 or so cauline bracts going up the stem that blooms on an erect, terminal, to 4.8" [12 cm] long, rather densely to 10 flowered inflorescence.
"Related to H mechowii but H liskowskiana has the posterior lobe of the petal up to .6" [1.5 cm] long, and the spur is swollen in the apical 6th. MH mechowii has the posterior petal lobe measures .8 to .92" [2 to 3 cm] long, and the spur is swollen in the apical third." Szlatchecko etal 2010
