Found in Ghana, Guinea, Ivory Coast, Liberia, Nigeria, Siera Leone, Togo, Central African Republic, Cameroon, Gabon, Zaire, Tanzania, Uganda, Angola, Malawi, Mozambique and Zimbabwe growing in leaf litter on forests floor in deep shade of upland and lowland rainforests at elevations of 900 to 1500 meters as a large to giant sized, warm growing terrestrial with an erect, slender stem with a cluster of, lanceolate, somewhat pleated, dark green, acute, petiolate, basal leaves and a few smaller ones on up the stem that blooms in the summer and early fall on an erect, terminal, to 1.6 to 8" [4 to 20 cm] long, loosely, 2 to 11 flowered inflorescence
