EARLY

Common Name The Bizarre Habenaria

Flower Size .4" [1 cm]

Found in India, Assam and Myanmar as a small sized, hot growing terrestrial with 2 tubers giving rise to an erect stem carrying all along the stem, ovate to slightly cordate, acute leaves that blooms in the early spring on an erect, 1.6" [4 cm] long, several to many flowered inflorescence with lanceolate, acuminate bracts and lanceolate, acuminate floral bracts.

Flora Of Thailand Orchidaceae Vol 12 Part 1 Pedersen, Kurzweil, Suddee & Cribb 2011 cites this species as a synonym of H malintana but I have left them separate for now.

Ames states that the tubes of this species are edible.

CAUTION I have no way of knowing if this determination is correct so use with caution.
