Found in Nigeria, Cameroon, Burundi, Rwanda, Zaire, Ethiopia, Sudan, Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania and Yemen in short, upland grasslands, marshes and open scrub at elevations of 1650 to 2550 meters as a miniature to large sized, cool to cold growing terrestrial with an erect, leafy stem carrying 4 to 9, more or less erect, lanceolate, oblong-lanceolate to lanceolate-linear, decreasing in size towards the apex leaves that blooms in the summer on a terminal, erect, cylindrical, 2 to 12" [5 to 30 cm] long, densely many flowered inflorescence with narrowly lanceolate, the lower ones longer the flowers floral bracts and carrying small, suberect to curved outwards, all green flowers.
