Found in Kenya and Tanzania in marshy grasslands or at forests edges at elevations of sea level to 500 meters as a large sized, hot growing terrestrial with an erect stem carrying 5 to 15, lowermost 1 to 2 sheathlike, the middle 5 to 7, suberect, linear to lanceolate-linear, acute, the upper ones adpressed to the stem, much smaller, lanceolate, acuminate leaves that blooms in the winter on a terminal, erect, 4 to 12" [10 to 30 cm] long,loosely to rather densely 7 to many flowered inflorescence with lanceolate, acuminate, thin, scarious, shorter than the ovary floral bracts and carrying spreading white to greenish white flowers.
