Found in Jalisco state of Mexico in tropical deciduous forest and holm oak, on slopes and open hills at elevations around 1300 to 1500 meters as a medium sized, cool growing terrestrial with an ovoid tuber giving rise to an erect, leafy in the upper 2/3's of the stem carrying 11, cauline, the first four reduced to unimbricate sheaths, distributed in a regular manner, upwards develop shorter than the others, but not similar to the floral bracts, the largest located above half, lanceolate, acuminate, up to 2.8" [7 cm] long, .64" [1.6 cm] wide, the edges glandular, with three not very prominent carinas, two-colored, glaucous on the underside, green above leaves that blooms in the late summer and early fall on an erect, terminal, rachis ribbed, 2.8" [9.5 cm] long, held in a loose, semi-cylindrical cluster, about six flowered inflorescence with conduplicate, lanceolate, with nine nerves, a loose reticulum, with an opaque carina, glandular, in most of the flowers slightly exceeds the ovary floral bracts.
"Habenaria tamazulensis distinguishes itself from H. lucaecapensis by the lanceolate, acuminate leaves, up to 2.8" [7 cm] long, .64" [1.6 cm] wide; the inflorescence held in a loose raceme, with around six flowers; the lateral sepals .72" [18 mm] long; .12" [3 mm] wide, the labellum blade; the nectary with the distal portion approximately fusiform, 1,46" [36 mm] long and with .14" [3.5 mm] wide long stigmatic processes. In H. lucaecapensis the leaves are ovate-elliptical lanceolate, up to 4.8" [12 cm] long, 2.4" [6 cm] wide; the inflorescence held in a dense raceme, with 25 to 27 flowers; the lateral sepals .4 to .52" [10 to 13 mm] long; the blade of the labellum is .04" [1 mm] long; thhe undilated nectary in the distal part is 2.08 to 2.12" [52 to 53 mm] long and the stigmatic processes are .08" [2 mm] long."
