Found in Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru on steep rock embankments among light scrub in wet moss and leaf mold or on rock outcrops at elevations of 1700 to 3000 meters as a large to giant sized, cool to cold growing terrestrial or lithophyte with smooth, oval, light green pseudobulbs carrying 3, plicate, petiolate base leaves that blooms in the spring on an erect, 8 to 24" [20 to 60 cm] long, single flowered inflorescence carrying sweetly fragrant flowers
