Found in Shaanxi, Anhui, Zhejiang, Hunan and Sichuan provinces of China, Japan, the Ryukyu Islands, Taiwan and the Philippines in forests on rocky crevices and along streams at elevations of 400 to 1600 meters as a mini-miniature to miniature sized, cool to cold growing terrestrial with an erect stem carrying a few [3], small, ovate, well spaced, acute, basally clasping leaves that blooms in the late summer on an erect then drooping, peduncle 1 to 1.4" [2.5 to 3.5 cm] long, provided with 1 to 3, pinkish red sterile bracts, 4" [10 cm] long overall, pubescent, 3 to 7flowered inflorescence with purplish red, broadly lanceolate, abaxially sparsely pubescent, ciliate margin, acuminate, shorter than the ovary floral bracts
