Common Name The Strong Hair Masdevallia [refers to the fringed ovary]

Flower Size 1/5" [5 mm]

Found in Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador and Colombia at elevations of 1600 to 3400 meters as a mini-miniature sized, cool to cold growing epiphyte in damp forests on western slopes and cloud forests with erect, abbreviated ramicauls enveloped basally by 2 to 3 tubular sheaths and carrying a single, apical, erect, coriaceous, narrowly elliptical, subacute leaf that gradually narrows into the petiole below and blooms in the summer and early fall on a slender, erect, 3/4" [2 cm] long, single flowered inflorescence arising from low on the ramicaul with a thin bract above the base and a cuculate floral bract all carrying a single nodding flower
